Ursa Was ADOPTED Easter Weekend!
This little girl showed up in my backyard about a week ago. I tried to get close to her but she took off running.
First, I went around the neighborhood thinking it was someone’s lost dog, but my inquires produced no results.
The next morning, I saw her again and realized my backyard was part of her path somewhere…I started observing her comings and goings with my binoculars. She always seemed to move with a purpose and was gone in a blink of an eye, especially upon seeing anyone. I realized she spent a lot of time in the retaining pond, next to my house. There, her golden colored coat blended with the grass and she went unnoticed. How clever!
Can you find her?
A closer look…
I kept wondering if she was an adult dog or a puppy. She acted like a puppy but was too “street smart”. She knew her way around and always came back for the 2 Flint River Ranch meals I started leaving on her route. I started to feel responsible for her well being. When the weather got colder and wet, I started feeding her an extra meal late at night.
Some neighbors’ teens spotted her and came chasing her towards my backwoods. The poor dog was running for her life and the teens only stopped after I yelled at them. The older one said he wanted to catch it for his girlfriend.
Next day, he was back trying to find the dog. This time around, he brought the family rotweiller to track her down…This sent chills down my spine. I decided I needed to get her out of such situation, no matter what.
I went to Paulding Animal control and got a trap, since she feared humans so much and would not allow me to get close. The first trap was too big and her weight would not trigger it. She came in and out of this trap about 5 times and nothing happened.
Yesterday, I was able to get a smaller trap and finally got her.
Turns out she IS a puppy. I am so floored by her intelligence and how she managed to live on her own all this time. She learned to navigate the neighborhood and evade people, other dogs and cars. She found shelter in the retaining pond and under my deck to escape the elements. She learned that I throw carrots out for the bunnies and always came around for her carrot treats, besides her meals.
After she was removed from the trap, she was calm and allowed humans to touch her and carry her around. She certainly has a lot of Golden Retriever in her. Could you provide a home for her?
There, she will be spayed, get her rabies shot and be prepared for adoption.
You can look her up, under medium dogs at:
She has the typical light golden hair of a golden retriever puppy I have been told she might grow to be the size of a medium dog, between 20 and 30 pounds. She is as sweet as pie, but shy, and seems to be in good health.
These pictures show what she looked like when she was caught. They already show the sweetest face but she will certainly look much better after a good bath!
